Sponsor | anitab | Apr 19, 12:00am | I have a couple of small suggestions for the forums.
1. Increase the number of mods that you're allowed to have. Why should there be a limit anyway?
2. I'd like to scroll through forum pages/threads with the arrow keys too (as with SU pages).
Any others? |

I do like the navigation idea too! :)
I'm sure, in fact, that if you were to visit the SU Extensibility group, there would be a script that would be similar to this idea. More specifically in this thread here. However, that is of course completely unofficial, and all questions/queries/complaints would have to be made in that group, not in any of the core forums! So don't discuss it here, otherwise CH will get mad at me ;) |

| Staff | CH | Apr 19, 2:57am | With regard to the limit: I see no reason why it shouldn't be raised - remember, there was a time when we didn't have any at all, and thus far I have seen no feature request presenting a case where the current limit is insufficient, and citing a case for the increase.
The current limit is hardly "pointless" - it *is* the current limit, and this is the first occasion, to my recall, that anyone has presented a need other than that currently provided.
I'd offer that it would be pretty pointless *not* to have a limit, else all the members of a group could be moderators, and would render the need for moderation moot by merrily moderating and un-moderating themselves.
Given that, I couldn't see that such a request would be denied - but that isn't to say that the feature might be immediately implemented, either. |

3: Actually, I don't remember. But thank you for letting us know how far we've come. Personally, it gives me hope that things will keep improving. :)
In some of the larger forums, it does start becoming a problem.
Everyone's had some experience where you feel like screaming out in a forum "where are the mods?!"
It helps to have at least one person around to jump in and try to diffuse any problems before they escalate.
It is up to the group owner to decide who the mods should be, but they should consider things like different time zones.
However, with the current limit, you can't always have mods in every major time zone.
I'm not suggesting a completely unlimited number of moderators. However, as StrangeJ said, if that were to happen, it would render the group pointless. But since when has that been a crime? What would be the harm?
I just think that adding a couple more to the current limit would be nice. (Is 10 reasonable?)
I believe it would definitely help with the management of some groups. |

One tends to agree

No comment (in fear of blue-shaded wrath) ;-)
(3 & 4)
Here's a little (valid) story:
Yahoo groups (and predecessors) have no limit to the number of permitted moderators but when one "owner" made everybody a moderator the group was pulled - presumably on the grounds of lack of common sense.

If major time-zone coverage is the aim (and for me it would be) then 6 or eight would cover it but I'd have no objection to ten (nor to common sense). |

| Sponsor | tigerdragonbrand | Apr 19, 2:47pm | I've been a group owner and mod for quite a while now. I think it would be nice to have one or two more mods. But the thing is this. It's really honestly not the number of mods. It's the willingness of who you have to actively participate. IMO, even if you went to 10 mods, the strong chance is you're still going to have those same dependable people you can count on.
Now what I think is a really important feature request, is the ability to be able to assign the "ban member" function to one other mod. Now that's the ticket. :) |

Again I am compelled to utter the Yahoo profanity.
In that unspeakable place, "Owners" are permitted to appoint (temporarily or permanently) "Joint Owners" with powers up to and including that of the Owner. This ability has great value if, for example, the owner is hospitalised or away on business (or even vacationing).
Serious feature request under "any others" as asked in (1) |
